Beige is back

fashion, interior design, Uncategorized

For a few years now beige has been seen as ‘boring’, but alas it’s back but only if you throw some textures within it. This chalet vibe has been created using wooden panelling and dark wood as the floor, the lamp to the left, the stem being made of twigs blends superbly to it’s surrounding wood. This setting would not have been the same without the fur, and cosy rug so these two key components are crucial to the fung-shui of this room.

Crushing on armchairs

What an armchair can do to a space is absolutely incredible. You can literally go from having the most basic pad to a space filled with character, simply from the purchase of an armchair.

If furniture could talk, an armchair would say ‘I like to stand alone’. This particular piece doesn’t need to match your sofa and footstool. There are no design rules.

The proud piece enjoys standing out and being dissimilar. Look at it like this… Your armchair is the icing on the cake, the piece that you can go totally bonkers with.

The options are limitless these days. You can have a chair covered in such amazing fabrics like Sumptuous velvet or have an old chair upholstered in a sentimental fabric.

Everyone needs a good armchair, it’s a must!

Take a look at Jonathan Adler or Graham & Greens current range. Ohh and Prêt A Vivre also have breathtaking fabrics, perfect for upholstering.

Sheer Delight

No longer confined to nets and yellowing fabrics, sheers have come back to allow light and privacy within your home. Layering these with heavier curtains gives you options depending on season and mood. Using heavier curtains on top will help stop drafts and keep the warmth in during the colder months as well as giving you pitch black when needed. Lighter curtains during the summer will allow more air flow and let you see the morning sun to wake up a little more slowly to. Whether its half height, loose hanging or layering sheers are certain to bring more texture and depth into your interior. Colours, styles and sizes can all be personalised to fit to the style of the room. Pricing wise, it’s up to you! Ranging from £14.99 in H&M to over £100 in Ada and Ina the ball really is in your court when deciding on your new accessory.

Being boho

For an eclectic and exciting interior twist for summer try adding some bohemian prints to compliment your space. Baba Souk has an amazing array of bohemian printed décor pieces in every colour under the rainbow. Although they are on the pricier end of the scale you would only need one or two to add an edgy twist to your space. The gorgeous blend of colours creates interest and a cultural spin to your interior. Small details like pompoms and more delicate prints can give the bohemian feel without being too loud, this is great for an already colourful interior. So make yourself look well-travelled and add some boho into your home, a little white lie you won’t regret!

Tassel trends

Clothes, shoes, cushions, curtains; you name it you can find it with tassels on. This indie trend is coming in full force and in my opinion its fabulous! Colourful or monochrome this is a great way to personalise any items you already have or to jazz up an old interior. These Urban Outfitters cushions would be a great addition to any sofa or bedspread. Or for these giant tassels just grab some wool of your choice and create your own! This really makes a statement on a plain bed and will add a cosy twist to your bedroom. Have some old cushions lying around? Give them a facelift with this simple detailing to uplift on a budget.

Don’t turn a blind eye to this!

Plain and boring no more; blinds can be any shape colour or style you wish so why not bring them into a room for a practical and easy solution. Moroccan style blinds and shutters have been on the rise to give a quirky edge to a very average household necessity. The intricate shapes of the blind itself or pattern can add detail to a room in the most unlikely place. Adding a sheer curtain and fringed ties can make a stunning feature window area.

How the EU referendum will effect Interior Designers

Leaving Europe would be a leap into the unknown for millions of people across the UK who work in the creative industries, and for the millions more at home and abroad who benefit from the growth and vibrancy of Britain’s cultural sector.

Exporters and importers from the EU are more likely to have a strong opinion on staying in the EU. Aside from the risk of restrictive trade practices such as trade barriers or tariffs or quotas  they may need to work harder to position the UK as a compelling and attractive business proposition.

From the smallest gallery to the biggest blockbuster, many of us have worked on projects that would never have happened without vital EU funding or by collaborating across borders. Britain is not just stronger in Europe, it is more imaginative and more creative, and our global creative success would be severely weakened by walking away.

Brexit has been a much talked about issue in 2016 and the result on friday will determine what businesses will thrive, and those that will collapse. I fear that Interior Designers like myself won’t get the opportunity to show their skills with others losing job;, funding becoming impossible and exporting and importing taxes becoming ludicrous. Whatever vote you chose, make sure it’s the right choice.

Matchy Matchy

It’s great to see combinations of colour that match and these photos help with inspiration :). One does not need to be conventional when matching colours around a room… From artwork to pillows, to valences and curtain trimmings; the choice is endless but luckily your the person who can choose.
