Beige is back

For a few years now beige has been seen as ‘boring’, but alas it’s back but only if you throw some textures within it. This chalet vibe has been created using wooden panelling and dark wood as the floor, the lamp to the left, the stem being made of twigs blends superbly to it’s surrounding wood. This setting would not have been the same without the fur, and cosy rug so these two key components are crucial to the fung-shui of this room.

 

Crushing on armchairs

What an armchair can do to a space is absolutely incredible. You can literally go from having the most basic pad to a space filled with character, simply from the purchase of an armchair.

If furniture could talk, an armchair would say ‘I like to stand alone’. This particular piece doesn’t need to match your sofa and footstool. There are no design rules.

Kicking it back- boho chic

Layer layer layer! Autumn is here and as well as piling on the layers of clothes you may want to add some cosy layers to your interior. Getting warm in this season goes brilliantly with the boho trend with no need to worry about clashing or being too precious about your placement. Layering textures and patterns will add dimension and interest to any room you choose. Think fur, knit and rustic woods to decorate your space. The natural textures will give an organic yet modern feel and you’ll be bang on trend for autumn/winter 2016.

John Lewis Croft collection is a stylish and on trend collection which features a lot of natural materials and soft colours. The collection features marble, pine and glass in the most recent kitchen edit which amps up kitchen design to be more practical as well as being stylish. Walking past this collection is a crime when browsing the wonderland that is John Lewis. The simplicity of the collection lends itself to any interior to make it updated and stylish. Try to tear your eyes off of the classy marble or simplistic woodwork for a second to look at wire baskets and beautiful crockery. You will not regret having a hunt for these treasures!

Autumn inspiration!

As summer winds down, the evening get darker and the purpose of you home changes. No longer are doors flung open with friends mingling between the kitchen and garden. Time to cosy up in the warm and relax! Transitioning your interior is easy and can come at any price point you desire. Throws are great as an aesthetic but are much nicer wrapped around yourself with a cup of coffee in hand. Maybe try tartan … Tartan always makes a triumphant return in the fall season both in interiors and fashion. Choosing more unusual blends like the ones below will add warmth and a lightness that can be lost in the darker evenings.  Candles, a leaf wreath or two and some sprayed pumpkins from Halloween are so simple to come by and will leave your home feeling as autumnal and the changing leaves outside.

Tom Dixon’s Private Party

One Tuesday night, Spicer Interiors was lucky enough to have been invited to Tom Dixon’s private launch party with cocktails and canopies being handed round as though it were out of fashion. From beginning to end, this zone was filled with aspiring Designers who got given freebies and one of Tom Dixon’s candle holder as a goodbye gift.

Aside from these bonus features, his work proudly stood under a sequence of arches. He had advised a ‘setting’ in each cave in the Portobello Dock ie. a dining room, living room, and other features he wanted to highlight. His intricacy is totally fabulous. I love the way he incorporates metals and oils which touches on very deep environmental issues that we have today. Sphere8 were very clever combining their talents with Tom Dixon as they created the floors in each setting and throughout the dock space. They focus on resin floorings that are eco-friendly and have a seamless shine.

Tom Dixon sells a broad range of items such as tables, lamps, candles, chairs, but it was the lighting that stood out mostly for me. He uses metallics and other materials such as wax and oils that shimmer when light reflects and is soothing to be around. His work will instantly lift ones rooms’ aesthetic. Whether you opt for a splash of shimmer or floor-to-ceiling lustre, these pieces will ensure your interiors shine with style; he’s one to watch.

Sheer Delight

No longer confined to nets and yellowing fabrics, sheers have come back to allow light and privacy within your home. Layering these with heavier curtains gives you options depending on season and mood. Using heavier curtains on top will help stop drafts and keep the warmth in during the colder months as well as giving you pitch black when needed. Lighter curtains during the summer will allow more air flow and let you see the morning sun to wake up a little more slowly to. Whether its half height, loose hanging or layering sheers are certain to bring more texture and depth into your interior. Early autumnal furs

Although autumn doesn’t officially start until September 22nd we are already dreaming of fall décor over here! So hold off on the leaf wreaths and pumpkin candles for a little while but do indulge in some fury comforts for the beginning of the new season. Synthetic fur accessories can come in a wide variety of price ranges depending on the authenticity ad scale but there’s something for everyone. To add to a cosy corner why not try put some fluffy pillows and a throw to snuggle into on the cold evenings. For a bolder statement try covering a chair with fur and exposing some of the framework for a Scandinavian twist. Fur works well with a whole host of trends including many we have mentioned on the blog before!
